This is the first of three botanical paintings I did for greeting cards celebrating loved ones. This one is for the occasion either of Valentine’s Day or a wedding anniversary. Since I was already working on another card featuring roses, I went with bleeding hearts instead. The hymn verse featured in this card is from the hymn “O Father, All Creating.”

Unless You build it, Father,
The house is built in vain;
Unless You, Savior, bless it,
The joy will turn to pain.
But nothing breaks the union
Of hearts in You made one;
The love Your Spirit hallows
Is endless love begun.
