This is part of a series of four bird paintings I did for greeting cards featuring hymn verses. I wanted a wide variety of Missouri-native birds of different sizes, which is why I chose the hummingbird. I love their tiny lichen-covered nests, and the iridescent feathers were a fun challenge that I found watercolor well suited for. This is a thank-you card featuring the second verse of the hymn “Son of God, Eternal Savior.”

As You, Lord, have lived for others,
So may we for others live.
Freely have Your gifts been granted;
Freely may Your servants give.
Yours the gold and Yours the silver,
Yours the wealth of land and sea;
We but stewards of Your bounty
Held in solemn trust will be.
